Recycled Shirting Fabric Custom Quilt for a Family

Today I started on a super cool quilt for a family
in Oregon to give as an Xmas gift!
The fabrics that I'm using are recycled 100% cotton shirting samples,
a left over from the fashion industry.
These fabrics are AMAZING and I LOVE working with them!

Ok, so the design I'm working on is the "peek-a-boo" square which is actually two pieces sewn together in a square and then I cut out the square. I leave the edges raw because when I have the quilt top quilted, it will be so tightly quilted that the pieces won't have any opportunity to pull apart. I wouldn't recommend this technique if you're not planning to have the top long arm quilted though...

So here I am just sewing two pieces together...

Make a square...

Pull the pieces apart at the square itself and make a little snip...

And then just cut around until you have completely cut out the square!

Press the piece flat and there you go!
